Former India National Cricket Team opening batsman Aakash Chopra has shared his views on the potential releases of the Gujarat Titans (GT) ahead of the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Aakash Chopra also talked about the Rashid Khan situation at the Gujarat Titans (GT) and discussed whether the IPL 2022 champions will think about releasing him from the squad.

Rashid Khan hasn't been in that good form - Aakash Chopra

Speaking on his official YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said that the premier Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan has not been in good form and was one of the worst performers for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025.

However, he added that releasing him from the squad won't make any sense because he is a supremely talented cricketer, who possesses the ability to win the matches single-handedly for his team. Aakash Chopra elaborated:

"I think they will not change anything. They will not let go of anyone. Everyone knows that the top three score all the runs, and there are slight problems from No. 4 to No. 6. Rashid Khan hasn't been in that good form, and Kagiso Rabada hasn't really pulled his weight in the side," he said.

"However, what will you change? You cannot change anything. What will you gain by releasing and reacquiring anyone? You are not going to release Rashid, although Rashid is the most expensive, and if you look at players who have performed the least, you feel it's Rashid Khan.

"However, he is Rashid. You ask karamati Khan to stay even if he has one or two bad years because the day he performs, he will win you the match. Even when he was not performing well this season, when he performed in one match, he won them that match. So he has got that kind of quality and pedigree."

Rashid Khan's IPL 2025 performance

The 26-year-old superstar leg-spinner has been one of the best performers in the Indian Premier League since making his debut for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2017.

In his first five seasons in the league with SRH, Rashid Khan delivered back-to-back impressive performances and bagged 17, 21, 17, 20, and 28 wickets, respectively.

In the Indian Premier League 2022, he moved to the Gujarat Titans (GT) and enjoyed immense success in the first two seasons with the new team, picking up 19 and 27 wickets, respectively.

However, there was a massive downfall in his performance in IPL 2024 and IPL 2025, which was mainly due to his injury issues. He picked up 10 and 9 wickets in the last two seasons and didn't look threatening with the ball.

You will keep Sherfane Rutherford - Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra further said that the Gujarat Titans would retain Sherfane Rutherford, who scored 291 runs in IPL 2025, but would look to strengthen their middle order for the next season. He said:

"You will keep Sherfane Rutherford as well. What will you gain by releasing him? Then, whether it's Sai Kishore or Arshad Khan, they have also done decently. I am saying Washington Sundar has also done decently whenever he has gotten a chance."

"In my opinion, Gujarat won't change anything. They need a little solidity in the middle order. They will try to get that, but I doubt that they will let people go."
