21-year-old leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has been handed his maiden India call-up as The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 18-member Indian team squad for the upcoming three T20Is series against the West Indies which will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata from February 16 onwards due to ongoing COVID situation in the country.

Bishnoi had impressed one and all with his bowling for the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2020 and continued his performance for the franchise in the IPL 2021 as well. This was a well-earned reward for his consistency with the ball.

Rohit Sharma passed his fitness test and will lead the Indian team in both ODIs and T20Is against the West Indies. There weren’t many surprises in the Indian squad for the West Indies T20I series at home. Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Ishan Kishan were named as the openers. Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, and Venkatesh Iyer made up the batting department.

Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Avesh Khan, Harshal Patel, and Mohammed Siraj were named in the fast bowling department. Avesh Khan is yet to make his India debut, while Harshal Patel recently made his against New Zealand at home and impressed one and all.

Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar will lead the spin attack along with Ravi Bishnoi for the company. Sundar had missed the flight to South Africa after testing positive for the COVID-19 recently. Also making his return in T20Is is Axar Patel, who was out with an injury.

It is understood that Hardik Pandya, who last played for India during the T20 World Cup, is not yet fit enough to play a full role as a seam-bowling allrounder. He has said as much to the selectors and is hoping to use the upcoming IPL to see whether his body can handle those workloads again.

The three T20s are to be played in Kolkata on February 16, 18, and 20.
