Ravi Bishnoi has said that he did try to bowl his fourth over against Chennai Super Kings but chose not to request it from his captain, Rishabh Pant.
Lucknow Super Giants were defending 167 runs. At the end of the 15th over, CSK were on 111/5 and needed 56 runs from the last five overs.
LSG spinners fought back
Till that stage, the spinners had kept LSG in the hunt for another win. Ravi Bishnoi had conceded only 18 runs in his 3 overs, in addition to taking two wickets as well.
On the other hand, Digvesh Rathi had completed his quota of 4 overs, taking 1 wicket for 23 runs. Part-time spinner Aiden Markram also picked up a wicket.
There was good assistance for the spinners at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. However, LSG captain Rishabh Pant decided against using Ravi Bishnoi after the 15th over.
Even though the leg-spinner had an over left in the match, the LSG captain relied solely on pacers for the last five overs. The move did not pay off as CSK chased down the total with three balls remaining.
Ravi Bishnoi on Rishabh Pant's decision:
Rishabh Pant has been facing criticism from several quarters for his decision to not give another over to Ravi Bishnoi. However, the leg-spinner has defended his captain's call, although he admitted that he wanted to bowl his final over in the match.
Bishnoi said that while he did not ask Pant for another over, he did go to the wicket a couple of times in search of his fourth over.
"I didn't really talk [to Pant] about it, but I went to the wicket a couple of times and I think he had plans in place he wanted to execute," Bishnoi said at the press conference after the game.
"In such situations, the captain is better placed and he keeps wicket too, so he understands things better. According to me, he took the decision he thought was better," he added.
No changes in IPL Points Table
The defeat ended LSG's three-match winning run. It was their third defeat in seven games this season, and they will look to bounce back quickly. The Lucknow-based outfit will be facing the Rajasthan Royals on April 19 in their next game.
On the other hand, CSK ended their 5-match losing streak with a 5-wicket win over LSG. They will be facing the Mumbai Indians on April 20 in their next game.
