Ravi Bopara creates history, smashes 6 sixes in an over off Robin Uthappa in Hong Kong Sixes 2024

Former England all-rounder Ravi Bopara made history at the Hong Kong Sixes 2024 by becoming the first player to hit six consecutive sixes in an over. Ravi Bopara unleashed his power against India captain Robin Uthappa and sent each delivery to the boundary in Mong Kok on Saturday, November 2.

Robin Uthappa opted to bowl first after winning the toss in the six-a-side match. England openers Bopara and Samit Patel had a slow start by Hong Kong Sixes standards, scoring 36 runs by the end of three overs. However, the England skipper changed the momentum in the fourth over of the game.

Ravi Bopara Smashes Six Sixes In An Over Off Robin Uthappa

Ravi Bopara targeted Robin Uthappa in the fourth over of the England innings. Bopara hammered five consecutive sixes off Uthappa, who then bowled a wide on the final ball. The right-handed batter sent the extra delivery for another six against Uthappa and ended with 37 runs in a single over.

Bopara continued his aggressive play by hitting a seventh consecutive six, this time off Shahbaz Nadeem in the following over. He quickly reached his half-century, scoring 53 runs from just 14 balls, including eight sixes. After this impressive batting performance, the England captain retired from the innings.

Samit Patel supported Bopara with a sensational knock of 51 runs off 18 balls, hitting four fours and five sixes. They guided England to a strong total of 120/1 in their six overs. The England team lost only one wicket during the innings, with Alex Davies run out by India’s wicketkeeper Shreevats Goswami.

Ravi Bopara Named Player Of The Match For His All-Round Efforts

In response, openers Goswami and Bharat Chipli provided an aggressive start by scoring 25 runs in the first over. However, Bopara brought England into the game by taking two crucial wickets. Bopara first dismissed Chipli, who scored 21 runs off seven balls and then removed Robin Uthappa for a duck.

Kedar Jadhav scored an unbeaten 48 runs off 15 balls, including four boundaries and five sixes. However, India fell short of the target, finishing at 105/3 and losing by 15 runs. Goswami scored an unbeaten 27 runs off 10 balls. Bopara was the pick of the bowlers for England, taking 2 wickets for 11 runs in one over.

Bopara was named Player of the Match for his outstanding all-round performance. Meanwhile, India is yet to secure their first win in the tournament, as they have lost three matches so far. They suffered a massive defeat to Pakistan on November 1, and they lost by just one run to the UAE in the second game.
