Former India head coach Ravi Shastri took a brutal dig at the current India head coach Gautam Gambhir. Without taking his name, Shastri stated that it was not necessary for Gambhir to change everything in the coaching staff. Gambhir is currently serving his tenure in his first match as India's head coach, against Bangladesh in Chennai.

Gautam Gambhir was appointed India's head coach after the end of Rahul Dravid's tenure at the end of T20 World Cup 2024 where India clinched the title. Dravid was asked to continue but he requested not to extend his tenure

After his appointment as the head coach, Gautam Gambhir brought in the new coaching staff with him. The whole coaching staff changed and only the fielding coach T Dilip remained from the previous coaching staff under Rahul Dravid.

Ravi Shastri absolutely destroys Gautam Gambhir; asks him to "shut up"

Recently, Ravi Shastri spoke about the changes made in Gautam Gambhir's era as India's head coach. Shastri took a brutal dig at Gambhir by saying that a coach does not need to change everything and that things should only change when it's needed.

"You don't have to change things for the sake of it, if you genuinely feel then fine, but just because you are a coach you don't need to have a say every time. You can also keep shut at times," Shastri said on Gautam Gambhir's decision to make changes in his coaching staff.

"Just because you're getting money you don't need to say everything. You can shut up as well," he added.

Changes from the previous coaching staff

Rahul Dravid's coaching staff consisted of Vikram Rathour as the batting coach, Paras Mhambrey as the bowling coach, and T Dilip as the fielding coach. But after Dravid's departure, only T Dilip was retained from the last coaching staff.

Under Gautam Gambhir, Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate are the assistant coaches of the side while Morne Morkel is the team's bowling coach. The ongoing Test series against Bangladesh is Morkel's first assignment in this role while the others were also a part of India's tour of Sri Lanka, where the team played 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is.

Gautam Gambhir's first assignment as a head coach was against Sri Lanka where India had a mixed outing. While India clean-swept the hosts 3-0 in the T20Is, Sri Lanka came back hard to win the three-match ODI series 2-0.

The first Test between India and Bangladesh is Gambhir's first assignment in home conditions. It also marks the start of a long red-ball season for India where they will play five Tests at home and five Tests in Australia in four months.
