Ravi Shastri trolled all the experts who are mocking Shubman Gill for his overseas performance in Test cricket. The former Indian coach also stated that the doubters should look at their overseas red-ball records before pointing fingers at India’s next big thing in cricket.

After Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma exit from the red-ball format, Shastri wants the next generation, including Gill and Rishabh Pant, to step up and shape the side for the next decade.

Ravi Shastri’s opinion on Shubman Gill

Shastri praised the leadership qualities of Gill, and the experts who are mocking him based on overseas records should look at their records also.

"The little I've seen of Shubman looks very interesting. Composed, calm, he has all the qualities," Shastri said as quoted by ICC.

“You people will talk he's not scored runs overseas. You know, that topic always comes, not scored runs overseas. Sometimes I tell them, go and see your own record, how much have you done overseas? Overseas, overseas, let him play, let him get a run overseas, then he'll score runs. He's a class player," Shastri added.

Shastri wants fans to be patient as Gill has a decade of cricket ahead of him for the nation. After Kohli, he will be the one who will run the Indian cricket team.

Gill had proved himself in the T20Is for India, as in the recent Zimbabwe tour, he led his side to a 4-1 victory in a five-match series. Shastri believed that this was just the beginning of a longer journey ahead.

Shubman Gill, the next Indian Test skipper

Shubman Gill is likely to be appointed as the next skipper for India in the longest format. He didn’t have any experience at the International level in red-ball format, but he has experience in first-class cricket to lead the Punjab side in the Ranji Trophy.

Gill will be traveling to England and joining the India A squad ahead of the second Test match. Sai Sudarshan will give him company as both join the squad after the first Test match against England Lions.

Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir’s masterplan of England tour

The reports claimed that Indian Head Coach Gautam Gambhir and Gill engaged in a five-hour meeting and discussed the blueprint of the Indian test team.

Every selector is almost convinced to make Gill the next Test captain, according to the reports. Gambhir is the first one to back Gill as the next-generation skipper for the red-ball format.

After meeting with Gambhir, Gill also met with the chief selector of BCCI, Ajit Agarkar and now it is certain to have an official announcement soon for the role.
