India head coach Ravi Shastri has been pleased with his team reaching the summit of the Test rankings after their sensational results in the last few months. India retained the top of the Test rankings after beating England at home by a 3-1 scoreline in the four-match Test series. Ravi Shastri hailed his side for showing grit and determination in tough times by playing outstandingly.

India’s incredible series win in Australia came on the back of one of the outstanding comebacks as a severely undermanned visiting side beat the hosts down under to claim their second consecutive series win. They returned home to beat England after losing the first Test convincingly and sealed their spot in the ICC World Test Championship final. New Zealand will meet India in the tournament decider on the 18th of June in Southampton.

Ravi Shastri took to his official Twitter handle and wrote that the Indian team has shown resolve and unwavering determination to become the number one Test side in the world. The former Indian cricketer highlighted that the men in blue overcame all the hurdles along their way and played tough cricket in tough times to emerge victorious.

Below is Ravi Shastri’s tweet:

India gained one point for an aggregate of 121 and New Zealand remained only one point behind after gaining two more in Thursday’s update, eliminating the results from 2017-18. The latest update, which rates all the games played since May 2020 at 100 per cent and those of the previous two years at 50 per cent, also saw England leave Australia behind to take the third spot. England’s 4-0 loss in Australia in the 2017-18 Ashes was dropped from the rankings’ count.
