Former Indian all-rounder and the current head coach Ravi Shastri had lauded the resilience, character and the never say die spirit of the Ajinkya Rahane-led unit for the manner in which they exorcised the demons of 36 all-out in Adelaide, eventually turning the tables on Australia to script their second successive series win Down Under.

This is Team India’s second series win in Australia under Ravi Shastri. Back in early 2019, when India became the first Asian team to defeat Australia in Australia, the former all-rounder had termed it as one of the greatest-ever triumphs in Indian history.

This time, however, Shastri has reckoned that he does not need to add anything vocally as his team has already given a big statement with their on-field performance.

“I’m fine. There’s ups and downs in the game, so I’m used to it. But the team has given such a performance that I need not add anything vocally because the boys have given a statement with their cricket. The biggest statement that can be,” Ravi Shastri said.

”The way he handled the troops after Virat flew back to India, is incredible”- Ravi Shastri on Ajinkya Rahane

Shastri further added that it was Virat Kohli’s constant efforts in building the team that is finally paying dividends for the Men in Blue.

“The character that this Indian team has is fantastic. Despite being all out for 36 (in the 1st Test) this team had the belief of bouncing back in the series. There was no Virat present physically but his aura with us throughout because this team wasn’t built overnight. This team was built over the past 5-6 years. Virat Kohli’s character has rubbed off on the team,” Shastri added.

He also heaped high praise on Ajinkya Rahane for the manner in which he led the team following Virat’s departure. He termed Rahane as a ‘true fighter’.

“And then Ajinkya Rahane led the side in Virat’s absence. He looks cool and calm on the outside, but from the inside he is a true fighter. The way he handled the troops after Virat flew back to India, is incredible.” he said.
