Ravichandran Ashwin announces retirement from IPL

Chennai Super Kings veteran bowling all-rounder and former Indian legend Ravi Ashwin has announced his retirement from the most widely known franchise league in the world.

The IPL has been home to the seasoned star, though he has represented 5 teams: CSK, Rising Pune Super Giants, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and the Rajasthan Royals in his career spanning over 17 seasons.

He has played in 221 matches in his IPL career and has amassed 833 runs with a half-century to his name while picking up 187 wickets, the 5th most on the list of wicket-takers in the IPL. He won two IPL trophies with the Chennai Super Kings back in 2010 and 2011, and played in the finals on several occasions, as in 2012, 2013, and 2015 for CSK; 2017 for RPS and 2022 for the Rajasthan Royals.

Ashwin posted on his X handle, making an official announcement on IPL retirement

"Special day and hence a special beginning."

"They say every ending will have a new start; my time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today," Ravichandran Ashwin announces his IPL retirement.

"Would like to thank all the franchisees for all the wonderful memories and relationships over the years, and most importantly, the @IPL and the @BCCI for what they have given me until now. Look forward to enjoying and making the most of what’s ahead of me," he raises a toast to BCCI and hints towards future franchise cricket collaborations.

Ravi Ashwin switches to a new role in franchise cricket

Ravichandran Ashwin switches to a new role after he retires from the IPL. He has hinted towards a second innings as he releases him from any terms associated with the BCCI, hence indicating that he might be making a move to other franchise-level leagues in the world.

He might also be expected to be seen in the World Championship of Legends, like his previous teammates. He is most likely to take up any coaching role as well, since he is known to have a clear insight into the game of cricket, which he often reflects on from his YouTube channel.
