Ravichandran Ashwin breaks Anil Kumble's giant record

Ravichandran Ashwin is a legendary spinner for India in Tests and whenever he plays for the national side, he creates or breaks records. In the ongoing IND vs BAN 1st Test too, Ravichandran Ashwin broke Anil Kumble's record in Tests.

Ashwin grabbed a lot of limelight in the ongoing Test match. Notably, when the team faced a batting collapse in the 1st Test, Ashwin came to the rescue and slammed a marvellous century to drive the team to a mammoth total.

Notably, he went wicketless in the 1st innings after the spectacular show with the bat. However, he grabbed 3 wickets in the 2nd innings as Bangladesh aimed to chase down a gigantic 515 against India.

Ravichandran Ashwin breaks Anil Kumble's Record

In the 2nd innings and 4th innings of the Test, Ravichandran Ashwin grabbed 3 wickets for 63 runs. He dismissed Shadman Islam, Mominul Haq, and Mushfiqur Rahim to dismantle Bangladesh's batting.

With his 3 wickets, Ashwin also broke Anil Kumble's record to capture the most wickets in the 4th innings of a Test match. Across 35 innings, Ashwin has clinched 96 wickets at an average of 19.40. He also accounts for 6 five-wicket hauls in 4th innings of Tests.

Kumble has 94 wickets in the 4th innings of Tests. Notably, Kumble is the Indian bowler with the most international wickets for India. Hence, Ashwin has surpassed Kumble in another record in the longest format.

The right-arm spinner also equalled former West Indies pacer Courtney Walsh's record for most wickets in Tests. Ashwin now also has 519 wickets in Tests, which is equal to Walsh's. He is now the 8th highest wicket-taker in the red-ball format.

Bangladesh needs 515 for victory

At the stumps of Day 3, Bangladesh reached 160-4 and needed 365 more runs to win. Their openers Zakir Hasan (33) and Shadman Islam (35) made a decent opening stand of 62 runs.

However, Ravichandran Ashwin's spin attack towards the end made them four wickets down. They have a mammoth chase of 515. Earlier, Rohit Sharma & Co. piled up 376-10 in 1st innings and bowled Bangladesh out for 149.

In the 2nd innings, Team India declared at 287-4. After openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal got out cheaply for 5 and 10, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant gave stunning support to the batting.

Pant went on to score 109 runs and made a marvellous comeback to Tests after almost a year. Shubman Gill also smacked an unbeaten 119 runs.

They both made a partnership of more than 150+ runs to drive the team to a gigantic total. The IND vs BAN Test series will witness two matches.
