Ravichandran Ashwin brutally teased by Virender Sehwag on IPL 2026 debut

Former CSK star Ravichandran Ashwin was largely teased by Virender Sehwag on his debut in the Hindi commentary box ahead of the start of the IPL 2026 season.

The IPL 2026 commentary panel has been announced, and a unique panel of players has been announced for the Championswaali commentary on the JioHotstar platform. Also, Ravichandran Ashwin is making his debut as a commentator in the IPL.

The same show on JioHotstar would also comprise many other known stars from the IPL. Aakash Chopra was seen alongside the duo of Virender Sehwag and Ravichandran Ashwin, and the former almost welcomed Ashwin as a senior welcoming a junior.

Ravichandran Ashwin's predictions for the IPL opener went wrong

Ravichandran Ashwin, the former Indian spinner, is often known for his great quality of making wonderful predictions. His daring predictions have often been seen as massively bold declarations.

Before the start of the game, Ravichandran Ashwin made a wild prediction that the Sunrisers Hyderabad could manage to dominate the former IPL champions, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, Ashwin's predictions went largely wrong as RCB instead managed to win the opening game of IPL 2026.

Virat Kohli remained unbeaten, as RCB chased a 200-run total in the first game after having won the match by 6 wickets. Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar also played a stunning hand; however, Jacob Duffy was picked as the player of the match for his spectacular figures in his debut game.

Virender Sehwag teases Ashwin on IPL commentary debut

An epic conversation unfolded between the two Indian legends, with the former Punjab Kings batter putting the former PBKS captain under the spotlight. The conversation unfolded when Aakash Chopra asked who was under more pressure, which led to a massive cheer of laughter in the commentary box.

"Toh bhai mujhe toh lag raha hai ki aaj dabaav saara Ashwin ke upar hai. Yeh nayi murgi hai. (I think the entire pressure is on Ashwin today; he's the newcomer)," said Virender Sehwag.

Ashwin also agreed to the fact, saying, "Maine bada prediction bhi kiya hai aaj SRH ka... SRH dhoom machayenge. (I have made a big prediction for SRH today... they will do wonders)."

"Woh toh tu waise bhi karta hai dressing room mein baith ke. (You do that anyway while sitting in the dressing room)," former Indian opener further agreed.

Sehwag reveals former dressing room gossip with Ashwin from his time at the Punjab Kings

Virender Sehwag went on to recite a former incident where Ravichandran Ashwin was the captain of the Punjab Kings. He revealed that when Sehwag was the coach of the Punjab Kings unit, and Ashwin was the captain, the spinner once wanted his opinion when the off-spinner was introduced into the attack.

"I remember when Ashwin was captain, he was sitting with me in the dressing room. He said, 'Paaji, an off-spinner has come on, what should I do?' I told him, 'You just go and swing from the first ball," revealed Sehwag.

He then further added that soon after, someone was dismissed, and Ashwin went down and was dismissed on the very first ball.

Sehwag recalled, "Three or four overs passed and no one got out, so we kept chatting. Finally, someone was dismissed, and Ashwin went in. He tried to create space to hit the first ball, but got out. He came back, sat down, and said, 'No, it's not that easy.' I replied, 'Yes, it isn't that easy.'"

They then jointly giggled and recalled how he was dismissed from Krishnappa Gowtham, the former Rajasthan Royals spinner.
