Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin voiced his support for England’s aggressive ‘Bazball’ approach, despite criticisms regarding its effectiveness. Ravichandran Ashwin expressed confidence in the future potential of the ‘Bazball’ approach in Test cricket.

The Ben Stokes-led team faced criticism after suffering a 1-4 defeat against India in the recent Test series. While the visiting team clinched a victory in the opening match in Hyderabad, they struggled to replicate that success in the following matches of the series.

The England team was undefeated in the Bazball era before the India tour, mainly due to matches played on flat tracks at home. However, the series against India was considered a significant challenge, and England failed to outplay the Indian spin bowlers.

Bazball Is Bound For Success – Ravichandran Ashwin

In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Ravichandran Ashwin said that India faced immense pressure despite their victory in the series. He emphasized the necessity of achieving the right balance for the approach to flourish under challenging conditions.

“So many people have commented that they lost 1-4, but in my opinion, we really came under immense pressure in the series. If the team manages to get the right balance, it is bound for success,” Ashwin said.

Ravichandran Ashwin played a pivotal role in India’s victory, emerging as the top wicket-taker with 26 dismissals. The off-spinner became the fastest Indian to reach 500 Test wickets. He also achieved the milestone of playing 100 Test matches in his illustrious career.

Cannot Be Played Like An Airplane On A Runway – Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin stated that Test cricket can’t be approached solely with aggression, stating that teams may struggle in India.

“Test cricket, or any other form of cricket for that matter, cannot be played like an airplane on a runway. We cannot step on the pedal and accelerate till we take off! It’s the same as driving on highways. Sometimes, when I think of it, is it because of how they drive in England? Driving in England is bliss.”

“No one comes in between. You can keep driving in the same lane. We cannot overtake on the left. They never expect unexpected things. If they see something unexpected, they crash. I have a feeling they will be very confused if they see how we drive in India,” Ashwin added.

“In India, you cannot always drive in the fourth gear. We keep changing gears. We always keep one foot on the brake. This concept is alien to them! Crawley always gets momentum, but cannot keep it going.”

Zak Crawley showed significant potential as England’s top run scorer, amassing 407 runs across 10 innings. He scored four half-centuries, but failed to surpass the 100-run mark. Apart from Crawley, other England batters failed to deliver consistent performances.

Joe Root struggled in the first three Test matches, scoring only 77 runs. However, Root made a significant comeback with a formidable 122-run innings in the fourth Test at Ranchi. The 33-year-old batter scored 84 runs in the fifth and final Test match in Dharamsala.
