Legendary India National Cricket Team spin-bowling all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has made a colossal claim on the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 triumph of the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side.
Ravichandran Ashwin said that the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 win of the India Women's National Cricket Team is bigger than the 1983 and 2011 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup triumphs.
India beat South Africa in a thriller
South Africa Women's National Cricket Team and India Women's National Cricket Team went head-to-head with each other at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai in the World Cup final.
After being invited to bat first, India posted a good score of 298/7 on the board, with Shafali Verma starring with the bat as she smashed an aggressive 87 runs off 78 balls, with 7 fours and 2 sixes.
Deepti Sharma hit an excellent half-century while Smriti Mandhana (45), Richa Ghosh (34), Jemimah Rodrigues (24), and Harmanpreet Kaur (20) chipped in with crucial runs.
Defending the target, the Indian bowlers were mainly troubled by Laura Wolvaardt, who slammed a ton, but Deepti Sharma dismissed her and four more batters to bowl out South Africa for 246 and help India win the World Cup.
I would truly rate this as an even bigger and more colossal achievement - Ravichandran Ashwin
The popular belief has been that the 2025 World Cup triumph is the 1983 moment for India in Women's Cricket, but Ravichandran Ashwin thinks otherwise, as he stated that it is even bigger.
"Harmanpreet Kaur, from 2009 to the present, has set the ball rolling in many ways. Despite that, when she lost three games in the tournament, people raised questions about her captaincy. And I was surprised. To come from so far behind...Many years back, Ambati Rayudu was playing at the Hyderabad Gymkhana Stadium. It was in 2017/18, and he was already a sensation then, and hence the stadium was packed. However, nobody knew that Mithali Raj, then the captain of the Indian women's team, was practising at the same venue. And look where we have arrived now.
"I would truly rate this as an even bigger and more colossal achievement than any other World Cup that we have won, because it inspires girls to play the game and consider the sport as a career option," he said on his YouTube channel.
This is such a significant achievement that it can be adapted into a movie - Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin further said that the Women's World Cup win of India deserves a proper 8-episode documentary.
"This is such a significant achievement that it can be adapted into a movie by directors and producers. But they have to change the way they tell the story. They cannot show that India won only because of 1-2 players. That's not possible.
"People will always talk about Smriti Mandhana, and Shafali Verma and Harmanpreet. But I want to see a story on Amol Muzumdar, on Shree Charani, and how she stood her ground. Remember, she wasn't part of the scheme until June. I would love to see such small stories told in an 8-episode documentary with passionate sports storytelling, because this is a truly special story," Ravichandran Ashwin added.
