Former Team India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has grabbed the attention of fans across social media with the latest news. The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has reportedly approved the renaming of Ramakrishnapuram 1st Street in West Mambalam, Chennai, in honor of the veteran off-spinner.
Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. The off-spinner finished as India's second-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket. He took 537 wickets in 106 Test matches, behind legendary Anil Kumble, who holds the record with 619 wickets.

According to the latest reports, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has decided to rename Ramakrishnapuram 1st Street in West Mambalam after Ashwin.
The request was put forward by Carrom Ball Event and Marketing Company Private Limited, owned by Ashwin, which proposed renaming either Arya Gowda Road or his residential street. After evaluation, the GCC approved renaming Ramakrishnapuram 1st Street. The official naming event is set to happen soon.
Journalists from Tamil Nadu confirmed the update on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Ravichandran Ashwin Reunites with Chennai Super Kings after 10 Years
The 38-year-old has reunited with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after being bought for ₹9.75 crore at the Mega Auction. He began his IPL journey with CSK in 2009 and played for them until 2015 before representing franchises like Rising Pune Super Giants, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals.
After being released by Rajasthan Royals, Ashwin was reacquired by CSK. He is the franchise’s third-highest wicket-taker with 120 scalps, behind Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo. Ashwin has featured in 212 IPL matches, taking 180 wickets at an average of 29.82 and an impressive economy rate of 7.12.
Ravichandran Ashwin Set to Make his Return for Chennai Super Kings on March 23
The Tamil Nadu-born cricketer will make his return for Chennai Super Kings in their IPL 2025 opener against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday, March 23 at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Ashwin played 97 matches during his previous stint with CSK from 2009 to 2015. He took 90 wickets at an average of 24.22 and an economy rate of 6.46, with the best bowling figures of 3/16. The off-spinner was a key part of CSK’s title-winning campaigns in 2010 and 2011 under MS Dhoni’s leadership.
With the bat, Ashwin scored 190 runs in 31 innings at a strike rate of 94, with a top score of 23. He also took 20 catches in the field.
