Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad and the active keeper-batter of the team, Jos Buttler, named the top 10 all-time all-rounders ahead of the 2-match Test series between India and Sri Lanka.
The former England teammates named the set of legendary all-rounders, without mentioning Ravichandran Ashwin, during a discussion via the For the Love of Cricket YouTube channel. Both of the selected choices were interesting as they covered different generations and different cricket-playing nations.
Ravichandran Ashwin is ignored in the list of top 10 all-time best all-rounders
Over the years, cricket across the counties has produced so many talented all-rounders that it was very hard for them to pick only ten names. Because of the limited number of slots, they had to make some harsh decisions as well.
From India, Broad and Buttler picked legendary Kapil Dev and Ravindra Jadeja to make the list of the all-time all-rounders; they ignored another prolific all-rounder, Ravichandran Ashwin, who served the India National Cricket Team for years across the formats with his spin bowling abilities and useful batting skills.
Throughout his career for the Indian cricket team, Ravichandran Ashwin scored 3,500 runs and six centuries to go with 537 wickets in 106 Test matches. On the other side, his former India teammate, Ravindra Jadeja, who is still active in international cricket, has so far claimed 4,000 runs and 348 wickets in 89 Tests.
Legendary Kapil Dev is in the top half of the list
The list of top 10 all-rounders selected by Stuart Broad and Jos Buttler is topped by the West Indies legend Sir Garfield Sobers, who played for the national team between 1954 and 1974 to get 8,032 runs and 235 wickets in only 93 Test matches.
Former South Africa pace bowling all-rounder Jacques Kallis is second in the list, right behind Sobers, who accumulated 13,289 runs and 292 wickets in 166 Test matches for the South African cricket team.
Ben Stokes, the former England cricket team captain who retired only a few weeks ago, is on the list for scoring 7,273 runs and picking up 252 wickets for the Three Lions in the Whites. Broad and Buttler placed Stokes a rank above Ian Botham, who played 102 Test matches and scored 5,200 runs and bagged 252 wickets for England.
Former India captain completes the top half of the list as the fifth all-rounder. In 131 Test matches for India, the pace-bowling all-rounder claimed 434 wickets and aggregated 5,248 runs with the bat.
