Ravichandran Ashwin Speaks In Support Of The Hundred; Says 'We Should Appreciate The Attempt And Give Credit To It'

Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has voiced his support in the favour of The Hundred tournament. His comments come after many people criticized that the quality of the tournament is not up to the mark. However, Ashwin feels that people are criticizing The Hundred without understanding the rules and format of the tournament.

The Hundred is a franchise cricket tournament currently taking place in England. The inaugural edition of the tournament witnessed the first encounter on July 21, between women teams Oval Invincibles and Manchester Originals. The tournament has some different rules against regular cricket matches. A game consists of 100 balls per side with 10 balls in and over.

Innovation Is Often Misunderstood By Many, Says Ravichandran Ashwin

While supporting The Hundred, Ashwin made arguments in the tournament’s favor on his Youtube channel. The Indian spinner mentioned that innovation is often misunderstood and not encouraged by many.

“Those who did not understand this format commented vaguely about frequent changes in rules and formats. To many, innovation is not encouraged and is often misunderstood. When someone films a movie, we should watch it in the theatre and then criticise it. Making irrelevant comments even before going to the theatre does not work. We should appreciate the attempt and give credit to it,” Ravichandran Ashwin said.

Ravichandran Ashwin also revealed that he watched a game between two women teams in The Hundred and found the game outstanding. The right-arm spinner also said that he would be glad if women’s IPL happens in the future. Have a look at Ashwin’s Youtube video below.

“I watched a women’s game between Oval Invincibles and Manchester Originals. Though names were different, the game was outstanding, and women’s cricket is here to stay. I’d be glad if women’s IPL is all set to happen,” Ashwin added.

In The Hundred tournament, 8 teams are part of the men’s competition while 8 teams are part of the women’s competition. In Men’s tournament, Trent Rockets currently holds the top spot in the points table with 2 victories in 2 games.

In the women’s tournament, Northern Superchargers Women are on the top spot in the points table with 2 victories in 2 matches. Earlier, former Indian cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar had called the tournament ordinary and its coverage as average.
