Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin won the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for the month of February 2021, after his heroics against England in the recently concluded four-match Test series against England.
India won the four-match Test series 3-1 after beating England in the second Test in Chennai and in both Tests in Ahmedabad, which included a 10-wicket victory in the pink-ball, D/N Test in Motera. In the final Test of the series, India completed a total demolition of visitors by winning by an innings and 25 runs.
24 Wickets In February 2021 And One Amazing Century Bags Ravichandran Ashwin The ICC Player Of The Month Award
Ravichandran Ashwin won the Man of the Series award for his 32 wickets in 4 Test matches and also for scoring 186 runs which included a brilliant century in his home ground of MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. This was his fifth Test century and first against England, which helped India win the second Test by 317 runs and draw level in the series as well.
He has also taken a fifer in the same match, attaining the feat of a century and a fifer in the same Test for the third time. Only England’s great Sir Ian Botham has done the same more times than Ashwin- achieving a century and taking five wickets in an innings of a Test 5 times overall.
In the month of February, Ashwin picked 24 wickets and scored that century in Chennai, and hence was named the ICC Player of the Month, which the cricket governing body announced on its official Twitter handle.
Meanwhile, Ashwin will be next seen for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2021, as BCCI announced the schedule for the tournament which begins from April 9 and the final will be played on May 30, 2021. Ravi Ashwin is not in India’s white-ball plans, but will hope for a comeback by performing to his best in the upcoming Indian Premier League season 14, as it will be an audition for many for the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in India.
