Ravichandran Ashwin's BRAHMOS hits Mohammad Yousuf in the face after Suryakumar Yadav controversy

Former India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin opened up about ex-Pakistan batter Mohammad Yousuf’s derogatory comments on Suryakumar Yadav during the Asia Cup 2025. Ashwin criticized the abuse directed at Suryakumar on Pakistani television, adding, “Never argue with people below your IQ.”

Yousuf called Suryakumar “Suarkumar Yadav” during a TV debate, which led to criticism in the cricketing community. The former batter later tried to deflect the backlash by pointing to former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan, who had previously made a controversial “barking dog” remark about Shahid Afridi.

Speaking on his YouTube show Ash Ki Baat, Ravichandran Ashwin said that his respect comes from his performances on the cricket field. He refused to engage in name-calling and added that players may sometimes speak beyond their expertise.

“I am a cricketer. Whatever love and respect I receive today is because of the things I’ve done on the cricket field,” Ashwin said.

“Yes, sometimes we may speak beyond the boundary line, and someone might even find value in it. But there are things best left to the experts. When we step into areas we don't understand, it gets dirty,” he added.

Never Argue with People Below Your IQ Level - Ravichandran Ashwin Slams Mohammad Yousuf

Ravichandran Ashwin said that it is useless to argue with people who have a low IQ. He advised staying calm and avoiding such conflicts instead of getting drawn into them.

“I read a beautiful comment recently, and it’s something I will carry with me for the rest of my life—never argue with people below your IQ level. Because they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience," Ashwin stated.

"He will never try to come to your level. But because you have common sense. You apply logic. You will try to understand at their level. You have lost. You have lost in life. So, I would say. Please don't go to their level. Because if you do. You will lose on their playing field. You will lose easily.”

Yousuf’s remark about Suryakumar Yadav sparked criticism from Indian fans and former players. Yousuf later tried to shift attention to Irfan Pathan’s earlier comments about Afridi.

We Are Playing Strong Cricket - Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin stated that the Indian team is focused solely on cricket. He added that the team has no interest in engaging in off-field theatrics and described India as a superpower in cricket.

“Our truth is cricket. We are playing strong cricket, we are batting with class, we are bowling well. Let’s just stick to that. India, as a cricketing nation, is a superpower. Let’s keep building on that,” Ashwin opined.

India remains unbeaten in the Asia Cup 2025 after securing three consecutive victories. Notably, the Suryakumar Yadav-led team defeated Pakistan by seven wickets in their group-stage clash.

Meanwhile, Pakistan is struggling with both on-field losses and off-field controversies. The two teams are set to meet again on Sunday, September 21, for their second Super 4 stage encounter.
