The India National Cricket Team is currently playing against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team in the first of the two-match Test series at the Galle International Cricket Stadium, Galle. Shubman Gill’s side have an advantage over the home side. During India's second innings of the match, substitute fielder Pasindu Sooriyabandara took a brilliant catch to dismiss Ravindra Jadeja.

India opted to bat first after winning the toss and scored 462 runs in the first innings. Sri Lanka batters fell like nine pins until a solid 126-run partnership for the 6th wicket between Sonal Dinusha and Niroshan Dickwella, as they scored 100 and 80 respectively, which helped the home side to save the follow-on in the match.

Ravindra Jadeja was batting at 9 runs as Lahiru Kumara came into bowl the 42nd over. In the 42.3rd over, the ball hit the top edge of Jadeja’s bat and was taken brilliantly at deep backward square leg by substitute fielder Pasindu Sooriyabandara. This was another failure with the bat for the veteran batter as he was out for 9 off 19 deliveries.

Pasindu Sooriyabandara ran towards his left and dived to complete the catch with both hands. Sri Lanka needed this wicket desperately as the lead had gone over 350 runs and India had complete control over the game. Jaddu did not have the best of outings in both innings as he scored 13 off 25 in the first innings.

Ravindra Jadeja achieves new milestone

Jaddu has been amazing with the ball in the first innings, using all his experience of playing in the subcontinent. He picked three wickets in the first innings and gave amazing support to the young spinner Manav Suthar, who has been playing his first series in Sri Lanka. The veteran all-rounder achieved some milestones with the ball in the first innings.

The 37-year-old all-rounder became the first Indian left-arm spinner to pick 350+ wickets in the Test format. In the first innings against the Sri Lanka team, he dismissed Keshara Nuwantha to complete 350 Test wickets, and currently Ravindra Jadeja has 351* Test wickets and will look to pick wickets in the second innings as India will defend a total.

India dominate against Sri Lanka

India, after winning the toss, opted to bat first and posted a huge first-innings score of 462 runs with Devdutt Padikkal playing a sensational knock of 167 runs while batting at No.3 for the first time in his international career. He was excellent in the first innings; apart from him, KL Rahul played a knock of 82 runs, and Dhruv Jurel scored a quickfire 51 runs.

After trailing by a huge total of 462 runs, the home side lost wickets in quick succession, with a 126-run partnership between Sonal Dinusha and Niroshan Dickwella for the 6th wicket helping the Lankan Lions to recover from the collapse a bit as they avoided the follow-on. However, they could not reduce the lead by under 100 as they were bowled out for 284 runs.

India, in the second innings, scored 193 runs before being bowled out, with Rishabh Pant scoring the only fifty as he scored 66 runs as the Men in Blue posted a target of 372 runs for the home side.
