Former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar has opined on Axar Patel’s terrific performances against England and what must be going through Ravindra Jadeja’s mind looking at those. Ravindra Jadeja sustained a thumb injury during India’s tour of Australia in the Sydney Test and took no further part. Sunil Gavaskar speculated that Ravindra Jadeja might be wondering why his thumb wound has not healed yet.

Following Ravindra Jadeja’s ruling out of the four-match Test series against England, BCCI included Axar Patel, who arrived as a like-for-like replacement. The left-arm spinner has performed outstandingly well in the two Tests he played, including grabbing 11 wickets in the third Test alongside three five-wicket hauls. Thus, India has hardly felt Jadeja’s absence.

Sunil Gavaskar reckoned that Ravindra Jadeja might be thinking what happened to his thumb and been asking his doctor why it’s taking so long to recover. The 71-year old felt that one month was too long to recover from a thumb dislocation, having sustained the injury on the 10th of January.

“Jadeja is now wondering what happened to his thumb. He is asking the doctor why his dislocated thumb has taken so long to recover. He got hit on the 10th of January and it is now end of February, for a dislocated thumb to take that long, ooh,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.

Former England spinner Graeme Swann claimed to be a massive fan of Ravindra Jadeja. Swann jokingly stated that seeing how well Axar Patel has done, he should go on leave for a week and Jadeja could play for either England or India. He feels that Axar has done more than enough for now and they have seen enough of him.

“I am a huge fan of Jadeja. Seeing how well Axar Patel has done, I think he should go on leave for a week and Jadeja can either come and play for England or can play for India because I think Axar Patel has done enough for now, we have seen enough of him, haven’t we,” Swann stated.
