The India National Cricket Team is set to play Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series. The first Test is scheduled to take place from 15th August at the Galle International Stadium, Galle. Ahead of the Test match, Ravindra Jadeja is on the verge of breaking some milestones during the first game of the two-match series.
Ravindra Jadeja made a comeback to the India National Cricket Team after a long pause. He was not included in the ODI series against Afghanistan, nor in the England series, nor in the one-off Test against the Afghans. It was rumoured that he was not in the plans; however, despite all things, he is back in the squad and looked good in the warm-up match.
Ravindra Jadeja set to surpass Ishant Sharma
Ravindra Jadeja is on the verge of breaking several milestones in Sri Lanka. He is set to become the fifth-highest wicket-taker against Sri Lanka in Tests. The veteran all-rounder is just behind former India pacer Ishant Sharma. Ishant has picked 36 wickets from 12 Tests against Sri Lanka, and had an average of 36.
Jadeja has featured in seven Tests against the Island and has bagged 33 wickets at an average of 23.72, featuring two five-wicket hauls. He is just four wickets away from entering the top five list of Indian bowlers to pick most wickets against the Lankan Lions in Tests.
Anil Kumble is on top of the list with 74 wickets from 18 Tests. Then it's Ravichandran Ashwin (62 wickets), Harbhajan Singh (53 wickets) and Kapil Dev (45 wickets). In the India vs Sri Lanka Test matches, the most wickets have been taken by former spinner Muthiah Muralidaran, as the greatest off-spinner picked 105 wickets.
Ravindra Jadeja set to enter elite list
Jadeja is not only one record away, but he is multiple records away. He needs two more wickets to become India's fifth bowler to take 350 or more Test wickets. He is also the third-highest wicket-taker in Tests among left-arm spinners; Jaddu has picked 348 wickets in the traditional format of the game.
He can even surpass former New Zealand National Cricket Team spinner Daniel Vettori, who has 362 wickets. Jaddu will have to pick 15 wickets to surpass the former Kiwi spinner, as he has many matches left in the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
Ravindra Jadeja's recent form
Jaddu is also ranked 19th among all-time Test run scorers from India. He has scored 4,095 runs in 89 Test matches. With 4,153 runs from 68 Test matches, he is behind KL Rahul.
He will overtake Gambhir on the list; the all-rounder has to score 60 more runs. Gambhir, the current head coach, has scored 4,154 runs at an average of 51.49 from 58 Test matches, with 22 fifties and nine hundreds.
Ravindra Jadeja has been in good form in the recent warm-up game, as he scored 63 runs with the bat and scored 22 in the next. He picked up two wickets each in both innings. He is the most experienced spinner in the list and will look to spearhead the attack.
