Chennai Super Kings have thrown Ravindra Jadeja into a fresh challenge in the ongoing IPL 2025, but the move has triggered concerns behind the scenes. After years of finishing matches from the lower middle order, Ravindra Jadeja has been pushed up the batting lineup this season.

In his new role, Jadeja is facing more spin than ever before in the IPL. However, the Indian all-rounder shone with an unbeaten 53 against Mumbai Indians, but his early dismissal for just 7 against Lucknow Super Giants exposed some vulnerabilities in his technique.

Stephen Fleming says Ravindra Jadeja needs to improve against spin

Ahead of Chennai Super Kings’ IPL 2025 clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 25 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the head coach, Stephen Fleming, said that the left-handed batter still has work to do when it comes to dominating quality spin bowling.

Fleming also revealed that the CSK coaching staff is actively exploring how best to unleash Ravindra Jadeja’s full potential. The coach said that they are not just looking for a quick win, but they’re also testing boundaries, pushing players out of their comfort zones in search of long-term growth.

Stephen Fleming said in the pre-match press conference, “There's a lot of room for improvement in our view, and it's a little bit of opportunity. I know in the past that he's done it for a couple of games, but he hasn't had a big run at it, and it's more the attitude towards it. So, we're exploring a lot of things at the moment to see whether there are gains within the side with one view on trying to win every game remaining in the IPL but also in the future.”

CSK tries fresh strategies to break old habits amid struggles in IPL 2025

CSK's head coach revealed that the team is trying new strategies by testing players in new roles. The idea is to help them grow, break old habits, and find fresh ways to win matches.

With Chennai Super Kings sitting at the bottom of the IPL 2025 table with just two wins, the pressure is on every member of the franchise. As they prepare to face Sunrisers Hyderabad at home on April 25, CSK will be desperate to turn things around and get their campaign back on track.

Fleming added, “So we think there are areas that we can explore with our players where they haven't perhaps conquered it in the past and just try to change some attitudes around it.”

Ravindra Jadeja struggles against spin as CSK star's poor run continues in IPL 2025

Notably, teams have been using spin bowlers to slow down Ravindra Jadeja this season, and it’s working. Jadeja has faced 58 balls and managed just 51 runs against the spinners. Jadeja has improved against pace in recent years, but spin continues to trouble one of the best all-rounders.

Jadeja has been struggling to deliver in the ongoing IPL 2025. In eight matches, he’s scored only 145 runs with a strike rate of 128 and managed just one fifty. His spin bowling hasn't been productive either, as he has taken only five wickets so far in the ongoing tournament.
