The Indian Premier League (IPL) founder, Lalit Modi, has dropped a massive statement on the sale of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise.
Lalit Modi said that the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) owners would be "stupid to sell" the franchise at the moment for anything less than two billion dollars.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru won IPL 2025
Under the leadership of Rajat Patidar, Royal Challengers Bengaluru delivered an exceptional performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and finished the league stage at the No.2 spot. They won nine out of 14 matches and had 19 points and a Net Run Rate of 0.301.
In Qualifier 1, Royal Challengers Bengaluru registered a dominant win over the Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings, and in the summit clash, they locked horns with the same team.
In the IPL 2025 final on Tuesday, June 3, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, RCB displayed a magnificent brand of cricket and posted 190/9 on the board after opting to bat first, thanks to crucial contributions from all the players.
Then they restricted the Punjab Kings to 184/7 to clinch a 6-run win and end their IPL title drought and clinch a trophy after 18 years.
After winning the championship for the first time, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru announced a victory parade in Bengaluru as well as other celebratory events.
They got a grand welcome in the city, but things turned tragic outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. A deadly stampede happened on June 4, 2025, and eleven people were killed and 56 others were injured.
If RCB does want to sell, they would be stupid - Lalit Modi
In his latest interaction with Michael Clarke, the IPL founder Lalit Modi shared his thoughts on the rumours of the sale of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise.
He said that Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have got a great fanbase and they should only sell the franchise if they get an offer of 2 billion dollars and nothing less than that, because their valuation will only grow in the coming years.
“We (IPL) are only 18 years old. We have just started the fan following, we have just started the frenzy. It was unfortunate what happened with the stampede in Karnataka after RCB won," Modi said while speaking to Michael Clarke on the Beyond 23 Cricket Podcast.
"If RCB does want to sell, they would be stupid to sell it for less than 2 billion dollars. If it is next year, then 2.5 billion and if two years later, it would be 3 billion, and if it is four years later, then four billion dollars. Take it in writing from me," Modi said.

I watch every match - Lalit Modi
Lalit Modi, who was the main man behind the commencement of IPL and had a controversial exit from the league, further said that he misses being part of the competition.
“I miss it. I think of it and nobody lets me forget it. I watch every match. In life, nothing is permanent. I am a part of it and that can never be taken away. In life, you have got to carry on and let others carry on," Modi said.
“Too much jealousy was created. We have a crab mentality in India; they pull you down. My family was in danger, I was in danger," Modi added.
