The shocking act was even captured and shared online, which has ignited widespread outrage across the country. The incident took place in Mariyammanahalli village, Molakalmuru taluk, Chitradurga district, where the trio — Sanna Palayya (22), Jayanna (23), and Tippe Swamy (28)—were seen doing the shameful practice in a 20-second viral video.
RCB fans arrested for animal cruelty in ‘Blood Ritual’ to Virat Kohli’s cutout
The video surfaced online shortly after Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s exciting win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in an IPL 2025 clash on May 3. The video shows one of the men holding a goat in front of Virat Kohli’s life-size cutout, while another enthusiastically announces RCB's victory over CSK.
The disturbing moment further shows the goat is brutally slaughtered with a machete, and its blood is offered as a ‘raktaabhisheka’ (blood ritual) to the image of the RCB batting icon Kohli. A third man is seen holding the animal down as the ritual takes place.
The video, originally shared on Instagram by a user named “call-me-143-kalki,” quickly went viral, sparking public outrage and widespread condemnation for the cruelty. Authorities swiftly intervened, with the Molakalmuru police filing charges under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

Karnataka Police says 'animal cruelty cannot be tolerated'
The three men were arrested shortly thereafter. The disturbing incident highlights a disturbing trend where fans, in their intense passion for their favorite sports stars, resort to extreme and violent acts. The police are now investigating the matter, and further action is expected as the case unfolds.
A senior police official stated, “This is an appalling display of blind devotion. While people are free to support their teams passionately, such acts involving animal cruelty cannot be tolerated.”
RCB famous for its die-hard fan following
Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has a massive and passionate fan base, especially in Karnataka, where it enjoys tremendous popularity. Despite not having won an IPL title since its inception, RCB fans remain fiercely loyal and continue to support the team with unwavering enthusiasm. Their love for the team is evident, and they stand by RCB through thick and thin.
RCB is currently sitting in the second spot in the IPL 2025 points table with 16 points, having won eight games and lost three so far in the tournament. They and the table-toppers, Gujarat Titans (GT), have the same points, but the GT has a better net run rate.
Kohli is leading the team's charge with a stellar performance, having scored 505 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate of 143.46. He is currently ranked fourth in the Orange Cap race. RCB's next match was against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 9 in Lucknow.
However, with rising Indo-Pak tensions, the IPL 2025 was suspended indefinitely by the BCCI on Friday. Now, the rest of the matches are likely to be held in the August-September window.
