Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will enter the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah with their second-largest purse of Rs 83 crore and aim to end their 17-year trophy drought.

The franchise has retained only three players: Virat Kohli (Rs 21 crore), Rajat Patidar (Rs 11 crore), and Yash Dayal (Rs 4 crore).

Bangalore was searching for a captain after the release of former skipper Faf du Plessis.

The franchise might target Karnataka-native KL Rahul who represents both leadership experience and wicketkeeping skills. It may be valuable as he is locally accustomed to M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

Rishabh Pant, who has been released from Delhi Capitals, and Shreyas Iyer, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to victory last season, are other possible candidates.

Beyond leadership, Bangalore needs to strengthen its spin department. Former spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar are available in the auction pool, making them likely targets.

The strategy of the team will be tested on November 24-25, when the team will conduct a two-day auction, putting up 574 players for sale.

With the highest purse after Punjab Kings, Bangalore has sufficient financial flexibility to form a competitive squad.

The management will need to stretch every nerve to build a balanced team that ensures success in their quest for the much-needed first IPL trophy since the inception of the tournament in 2008. Bengaluru last made it to the final in 2016, finishing second.
