Royal Challengers Bengaluru middle-order batter Tim David has made an impact with his powerful hitting in the limited chances in the IPL 2025 season. However, former Australia skipper Aaron Finch criticized the RCB management for not giving the 'destructive' David enough time in the tournament.

Tim David played a quickfire 37 runs off 22 deliveries during RCB's recent IPL match against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Bengaluru on Thursday, April 10. The home team posted a total just above 160. However, the score wasn’t enough, as Delhi Capitals chased down the 164-run target with over two overs to spare.

Why Tim David Has Batted at Number 8 Twice - Aaron Finch

Aaron Finch questioned RCB’s decision to consistently send Tim David down the batting order in IPL 2025. Finch said that David, known for his explosive batting, deserves more time at the crease. He noted that David has batted at number 8 twice this season, stating it "makes absolutely no sense."

"Can anyone please explain why Tim David has batted at number 8 twice in the IPL this season? Makes absolutely no sense to me…give your most destructive players more time," Aaron Finch wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

David has batted four innings for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2025. He registered scores of 22*, 32*, 1*, and 37*, and remained unbeaten on all occasions. However, RCB's plan to send him as low as No. 8 in the batting order has drawn widespread criticism from fans and cricket experts.

Tim David's Knock Helps RCB Cross 160-Run Mark

Royal Challengers Bengaluru started aggressively after being asked to bat first at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. They scored 53 runs without loss in just three overs. Phil Salt smashed Mitchell Starc for 30 runs in one over. However, Salt, who scored 37 from 17 balls, was run out after a mix-up, which triggered a collapse.

Devdutt Padikkal (1 off 8) fell to Mukesh Kumar. Virat Kohli (22 off 14) failed to convert his start into a big score, getting dismissed by Vipraj Nigam. Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma, and captain Rajat Patidar also failed to make an impact. A quickfire 37* off 20 balls from Tim David helped RCB cross the 160-run mark.

KL Rahul Named 'Player of the Match' for His Batting

Delhi Capitals chased down a target of 164 with six wickets in hand, completing the run chase in just 17.5 overs. The Delhi-based team lost early wickets — Faf du Plessis (2), Jake Fraser-McGurk (7), Abishek Porel (7), and captain Axar Patel (15)—but KL Rahul anchored the chase with an unbeaten 93 off 53 balls.

Rahul and Tristan Stubbs (38* off 23) put together an unbroken 111-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Rahul struck seven boundaries and six sixes, reaching his half-century in 37 balls. He accelerated by hitting three fours and a six off Josh Hazlewood in the 15th over and sealed the win with a six over fine leg.
