Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif has come up with a valuable suggestion for the RCB if they are to win the elusive IPL trophy for the first time in their history.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru are currently awaiting to play their final IPL 2024 league stage match against reigning champions Chennai Super Kings.
At the moment, RCB is 6th in the points table with 12 points. A win in their last game will take them to 14 points, which might not be enough for qualification. And that's because CSK are SRH have a chance to reach 16 and 18 points from their last games.
For RCB to qualify for the playoffs, they have to pick up a big margin win over CSK. At the same time, Faf du Plessis' side will have to pray that the Sunrisers Hyderabad lose both of their remaining games against bottom-sided Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings. But the big clash will be on May 18th at the M. Chinnaswamy as MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli play against each other for the last time.
Kaif explains why RCB fell behind in the play-offs race
While speaking to Star Sports exclusively, Mohammad Kaif gave a very valuable idea to the RCB team to fulfill their dream of landing the elusive IPL title. Kaif started off by explaining the season as it went for the South-Indian franchise, stating that they were winless for an entire month.
RCB had lost 6 matches back-to-back after winning their first game against Punjab Kings. That stretch of losing matches on the trot put Bengaluru far behind in the competition with Mohammad Kaif calling it the reason behind their slim play-off chances.
"They played so badly to lose six consecutive matches, which meant they were winless for a month in the tournament. That's why they fell far behind in the standings. The comeback must be applauded. But their chances of making the playoffs are very slim." - Kaif said via Star Sports.
Mohammad Kaif's suggestion for RCB to win the IPL trophy in the future
Mohammad Kaif went on to add that IPL 2024 must be a lesson learned for the RCB and for next season, he suggested that they should back Indian players. Kaif claimed that IPL is a competition, which is won by a team only when they have a solid Indian core.
He then said that Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders are prime examples of sides backing homegrown players and tasting success in the league. That RCB should do scouting and bring in solid Indian players, should be the motive they should try to implement from next season onwards as the Indian players will get them the elusive trophy.
"This is a lesson for RCB for next year. You have to back Indian players. KKR have invested in Indian players and they are on top, so are Rajasthan Royals. RCB should bring in Indian players. Do scouting, bring them in, and back them. They should invest in them, they will win them the trophy." - Mohammad Kaif added.
