Former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming has emerged as a surprising candidate to replace Rahul Dravid as Team India's head coach. The BCCI recently invited applications for the post as Dravid's tenure will come to an end after the T20 World Cup in June.

Dravid's original contract had ended last year itself after the ODI World Cup but the BCCI had managed to convince the former India skipper to extend his tenure. Dravid can reapply for the role again but according to reports, he has already told the BCCI that he would be stepping down as the coach in order to spend more time with his family.

As of now, there is little clarity over who will be Team India's next head coach. Amidst all these, rumors of Stephen Fleming being the favorite have started doing the rounds. However, Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan has quashed the rumors. The former cricketer is currently plying his trade as the head coach of Chennai Super Kings.

"I have not heard anything like this. There has been no communication from Stephen Fleming to CSK either," Viswanathan told Sports Now.

"There has been no talk about this from the management with Fleming either," he added.

Recently, the Indian Express reported that the BCCI is considering former Stephen Fleming as a potential successor to Dravid. The report further stated that Fleming is seen as a front-runner because of his 'man-management skills, ability to bring the best out of players by creating a positive environment'.

The news outlet also reported that informal discussions between the BCCI and Fleming have already taken place through the course of the ongoing IPL 2024.

Stephen Fleming as a coach:

After his illustrious career in international cricket, Stephen Fleming has made a big impact as a head coach as well. While he is yet to coach an international team, he has left his mark in franchise cricket. He has been the head coach of CSK since 2009. During his tenure, CSK have won the IPL five times and the now-defunct Champions League T20 twice.

He has also coached Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash for four years. Fleming is also plying his trade as the coach of Joburg Super Kings in SA20 and Texas Super Kings in Major League Cricket.
