Former India captain Virat Kohli spoke in depth about the two most heartbreaking moments of his illustrious career ahead of RCB's clash against CSK.

Virat Kohli might play his final IPL 2024 game later tonight in front of home fans at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru. It all depends upon how RCB operates against the reigning champions in a match where stakes are higher than ever. With 3 teams already qualified for the playoffs, tonight's result will help determine the 4th team that will go through.

Qualification scenario for RCB and CSK

One of two legendary figures of Indian cricket - Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni might see their IPL 2024 campaign come to an end after the game this evening.

The qualification scenario for CSK is simple as they can qualify even with a point but for RCB it is quite difficult. They of course need to grab those 2 points but they should come through a big margin win otherwise their season will be over.

Virat Kohli admits he suffered his most painful heartbreak in 2016

While speaking to Jio Cinema recently, Virat Kohli touched upon a lot of things about his career and also the respect he has for his former captain MS Dhoni. One of the topics in that candid interview was about the most painful moments in his cricketing career.

As we all know, Virat Kohli hasn't had the best of luck when it comes to winning major silverware be it internationally or domestically in IPL. Despite scoring tons of runs and helping his team reach the finals, Kohli has mostly been on the losing side, specifically since 2013.

In 2009, Virat Kohli lost his first IPL final and in 2011 after winning the Cricket World Cup, the batter lost his 2nd IPL final. In 2013, he became a Champions Trophy winner with India which was followed by his first final loss in an ICC event when India were beaten by Sri Lanka in the 2014 ICC T20 World Cup.

Two years later, Virat experienced his best-ever season individually while playing for the RCB. He scored 973 runs and captained Bengaluru to the final, that too, in front of home supporters in Bengaluru against David Warner's Sunrisers Hyderabad. But there was no happy ending yet again as SRH came out on top.

But that was after a major heartbreak with the Indian team at the 2016 T20 World Cup on home soil. In a season where he finished as the 2nd highest run-getter, Kohli couldn't help the Indian team reach the finals despite being one of the favorites to win the title. The Indian team had bowed out of the competition after losing by 7-wickets to West Indies in Wankhede

That particular moment including the IPL final loss a month later, are the two most heartbreaking moments of his career.

"I had two heartbreaks in my life in 2016. First was the WT20 and then the IPL Final. It took me a few days to get over the WT20 loss because I was in such a position that I thought I could do it for India." - Virat Kohli said via Jio Cinema.
