Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Virat Kohli opened up about how he started playing cricket. He said that as a kid he used to play in the park and once he was enrolled in the academy, he didn’t look back and was committed to his game.

Virat Kohli arguably is one the best batters to have graced the game of cricket. He has put himself a step ahead of all the present batters and has broken and created various records. The right-hander has taken the Indian team to great heights and is the most consistent run-getter for them.

Not only at the international level, but he has proved his prowess in the IPL as well. He’s currently the leading run-getter in the league with over 6000 runs to his name. Virat Kohli is currently playing in the IPL 2023 as like every season he’s scoring runs for fun.

Virat Kohli has been in red-hot form in the ongoing IPL 2023. The batter has given exceptional performances in the season so far and is the main reason behind his team getting rollicking starts.

Virat Kohli is among the leading run-getters in the league so far. In the 7 games so far he has scored 279 runs with 4 half-centuries to his name. With the way he’s going, it’s fair to say that he can win the orange cap this season.

In an interaction with Star Sports, he asked about how he started his cricket journey. He recalled how his friend identified his technique and skills and urged his father to enrol him in the academy. He said:

“I have no idea. From the time I have any understanding of me as a human being, that’s the only thing I have experienced that I used to love. I just used to pick up the bat and just play at the park. As a kid, I was convinced that one day I would play for India and win matches.

“My friend asked me if I was learning cricket at at an academy, I told him that I would just watch my heroes on Tv and intimate them. My friend spoke to my father and told him to enrol me in an academy as he should be learning cricket.

Virat Kohli further went on to say that after playing cricket initially, he felt that this is what he was supposed to do and added that he was fully committed. He elaborated:

“I was 8 years old at that time and from them, I felt like this is what I’m supposed to do. There were no distractions while growing up. People either wanted to study or play sport. All my energy was invested in one thing and when you are committed then good things happen. There was never an escape and a disconnect. It’s tougher now to be that committed to anything but if you can then you can rise faster.”

Virat Kohli will be next seen in action when RCB will take on KKR in the 36th match of the IPL 2023 on Wednesday (26th April)
