Pakistan are facing Australia in the first Test currently at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The hosts won the toss and chose to bat first on a batting-friendly Perth track. David Warner scored a sensational century and Australia were bowled out after scoring a healthy 487. Shaheen Afridi could only manage to take one wicket and the reason for his poor show was explained by Indian commentator Ravi Shastri.

Ravi Shastri reckons Shaheen Afridi is feeling the pressure of being the spearhead of the Pakistan bowling attack without having any support from the other end in terms of genuine pace. Shastri said that currently, there is no bowler other than Shaheen who touches 140kph in Test cricket for Pakistan.

“I think the real problem for Shaheen Afridi is the pressure of being the spearhead of this Pakistan attack and without much real support at the other end when it comes to pace, genuine pace. When you talk of Pakistan and when you talk of their fast-bowling attack there is genuine pace all the time and you don’t have one bowler here who is even close to a 140. So that puts immense pressure on someone like Shaheen,” said Ravi Shastri during commentary.

Aamer Jamal took a six-fer against Australia in the first innings but Shaheen was seen struggling with the wickets. Shaheen Afridi was taken to the cleaners by Australian opener David Warner who took on the Pakistan attack early on in his innings. David Warner scored 164 off 211 deliveries which included 16 fours and four sixes. Shaheen Afridi ended up with figures of 27-7-96-1.

Pakistan bowled out Australia on a total of 487 and now the batting department has a huge responsibility to trail this humongous total in Perth. Australian bowlers have got a breakthrough as Nathan Lyon gets Abdullah Shafique’s wicket when the team’s total was 74. Shafique departed after scoring 42 off 121 deliveries. Pakistan skipper Shan Masood and Imam-ul-Haq are currently on the crease, playing for Pakistan.
