The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman has served a legal notice against wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal for allegedly making defamatory, false, and offensive comments on his YouTube channel about the Pakistan team’s performance in the T20 World Cup.

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has taken a dig at the cricket board and its chairman, Ramiz Raja, over the decision to send a legal notice. The former cricketers slammed Pakistan after they lost their first two matches to India and Zimbabwe in the Super 12 stage of the recently concluded World Cup in Australia.

Kamran Akmal is one of the many former Pakistani cricketers who have their own YouTube channels. Responding to the legal notice on the keeper-batter, Butt said there is nothing wrong with people having their own views on the game.

“Rehne de ye show? Kahi legal notice na aa jaaye (Should we stop the show? Else we might also get legal notice). Speaking about technical aspects, giving your opinion and speaking based on your experience, especially those who have much more of it than policy-makers (is fine).

“You cannot challenge opinions. You can convince people with your explanation, logic and reasoning,” said Salman Butt.

“There is one more thing here. If we are talking about something, it should not personally hit anyone. We should not cross the line with regards to someone’s personality, looks and personal lives. We have not right to do that. Nor does anyone else have a right to cross the line against us. If someone has done it, people should refrain from such things,” he added.

Apart from Butt and Akmal, other Pakistani cricketers like former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, Danish Kaneria, Shoaib Akhtar, and Saeed Ajmal actively express their views on their respective YouTube channels. Before taking over as PCB chairman, Raja was an active critic and analyst on YouTube.
