South African middle-order batsman Rassie van der Dussen is likely to join the Rajasthan Royals for the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League.
According to a report published in News24, the Proteas white-ball International is lined up for his Indian Premier League debut with the Rajasthan Royals, should he secure his visa.
The news of Rassie van der Dussen likely to join the Rajasthan Royals set-up comes at a time when the inaugural IPL champions find themselves grappling with the lack of overseas options.
Rajasthan Royals started off their IPL 2021 campaign without the services of their pace-bowling spearhead in Jofra Archer, who was ruled out of the first half of the season due to the finger injury and the subsequent surgery that he underwent.
They suffered another body blow when Ben Stokes was ruled out of the competition due to an injury he suffered while taking Chris Gayle’s catch during the opening game against Punjab Kings.
A week later, another overseas cricketer in the form of all-rounder Liam Livingstone bid adieu to the franchise, citing bio-bubble fatigue issues.
And, just a few days ago it was confirmed that Jofra Archer will not be returning to India to take part in the IPL this year.
Rajasthan Royals have endured a horrendous start to their IPL 2021 campaign, having lost three of their first four games.
They were thumped by ten wickets by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in their last fixture and they will be looking to bounce back when they lock horns with Kolkata Knight Riders in Mumbai on Saturday.
Overall, Rassie van der Dussen has played 126 T20 games, in which he has accumulated 3824 runs at an average of 38.62 and a strike rate of 131.31 which includes 26 50s and three hundreds.
