The remaining games of the 6th season of the Pakistan Super League [PSL] could well be held in January 2022 if a report in Cricket Pakistan is to be believed.
The 6th season of PSL was postponed midway through the season earlier this March following multiple Covid positive cases among players and support staff.
A few weeks later, it was decided that the remaining games will take place at the National Stadium in Karachi between June 01-20.
However, a significant spike in Covid cases in the country forced the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to approach the Emirates Cricket Board to host the remaining games of the PSL in the UAE.
The Abu Dhabi government gave clearance for the event but on the condition that all players and support staff members entering the gulf be fully vaccinated.
The Abu Dhabi government’s demand and several logistical hurdles involved in taking the PSL to the UAE means has once again put PCB on the backfoot.
The board is now waiting for a final confirmation from the Abu Dhabi government and the official announcement regarding the postponement of the season is likely to come on Thursday.
During a meeting held between PCB and PSL franchise owners, the idea of staging the remaining games of the 6th season in January 2022 but would mean, the 7th season of the league will be delayed.
Another option that was suggested was to host the matches in Karachi next month but with summer set to be at its peak, one team owner pointed out that this is not a feasible option at the moment.
The franchise owners, however, have also expressed their disappointment with the lack of leadership shown by the PCB at such a critical juncture.
The owners believe that if the PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani or Chief Executive Officer Wasim Khan had gone to the UAE instead of sending a seven-member team, then the situation could have been different.
