One of the Sri Lankan cricketers in one of the two bio-bubbles has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. According to a news report of Newswire.lk, Sandun Weerakkodi has contracted the COVID-19 disease. With the virus wreaking havoc through the camp, the limited-overs series against India has already suffered postponement. The first of the three ODIs will now kickstart on the 18th of July in Colombo instead of the 13th.

The COVID-19 outbreak has continued to rock the home team, starting with the batting coach Grant Flower and analyst GT Niroshan contracting the disease. Furthermore, the player selection remains as much a headache for the selectors. With the Sri Lankan cricketers awaiting their RT-PCR tests, their availability depends upon the test results.

Meanwhile, as per Newswire.lk, Sandun Weerakkodi was with the 15 senior cricketers, who were training while staying at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel. It further revealed that Weerakkodi, along with Bhanuka Rajapaksa and several others travelled to Dambulla to play in a warm-up game ahead of the white-ball series against India.

The Sri Lankan team had to be shifted to the Cinnamon Hotel from Taj amid the COVID-19 scare. The squad at the Cinnamon Hotel also include Asela Guneratne, Angelo Perera, and Bhanuka Rajapaksa, all of whom have to isolate now.

The official announcement regarding the rescheduling came from the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah itself. With a member of the second squad also testing positive for the disease, Sri Lanka selectors have massive headaches ahead of them. Hence, their plan to have a reserve group of players also looks futile.
