In the latest development, Sri Lankan Cricket has decided to call back the duo of Niroshan Dickwella and Kusal Mendis after they were found guilty of breaching the bio-bubble in Durham.

The development comes after a video went viral on social media where the duo of wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella and vice-captain Kusal Mendis CA  be seen loitering around in Durham despite covid restrictions in the county.

“SLC has decided to bring back cricketers Kusal Mendis and Niroshan Dickwella for breaching the bio-bubble. #ENGvSL – veteran sports journalist Danushka Aravinda confirmed on Twitter.

The Sri Lankan Cricket Team is currently in Durham where it will lock horns with England in the first One-day International of the three-match series on June 29.

So far, it has been learned that while the Sri Lankans were allowed to travel in Cardiff, the same wasn’t the case in Durham as the county is witnessing a surge in covid cases.  It is likely that a 3rd player is also involved, possibly Danushka Gunathilaka.

Both Dickwella and Mendis will undergo isolation for 2 weeks and will be fined by the government.

The Sri Lankan Cricket Board, meanwhile, has also initiated disciplinary action against the said players after the videos of them loitering around in Durham went viral.

“We have seen the videos and have started an inquiry. No team member was supposed to go out of their hotel unescorted.” a source in SLC told AFP.

The development is the last thing that Sri Lanka would have wanted given the fact they are already under the pump after having lost the T20I series 0-3 in an embarrassing manner.
