"Results do matter, and that is winning": Shreyas Iyer reveals ruthless captaincy stance after PBKS crush LSG

Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings (PBKS) took on the Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 54th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Sunday, May 4.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) won the IPL 2025 match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 37 runs at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala.

Everyone stepped up at the right time - Shreyas Iyer
Being invited to bat first in the match, PBKS registered a colossal score of 236/5, thanks to a sensational 91-run knock from Prabhsimran Singh and good contributions from others. Defending the total, Arshdeep Singh (3), Azmatullah Omarzai (2), Marco Jansen (1), and Yuzvendra Chahal (1) did a good job and restricted LSG to 199/7.
During the post-match presentation ceremony, Shreyas Iyer expressed his delight over the win and lauded Prabhsimran Singh for his batting masterclass. He said:
"Elated to be honest. Everyone stepped up at the right time. The contribution was immense from each and every individual. Prabs the way he performed today was exceptional. All the shots played were exceptional to the eyes.

Shreyas Iyer further said that they have worked very hard, and because of tha,t luck is also favoring them. He said:
"(on their poor record at this venue) I'm glad I did not know about it. I step on to the pitch to win the match, that was my mindset. We have been lucky so far, the luck has been there because of the hard work and the commitment shown. Everyone stepping at the right time, each and every individual know their roles precisely."
Shreyas Iyer, in the end, asked his teammates to improve their awareness on the field and revealed his ruthless captaincy stance, saying results do matter. He said:
"There's only thing we need to correct - that is the awareness and the way we move on the field. Just back yourself and back your instincts and not think too much about the stats and what it can offer. Results do matter and that is winning."
How did PBKS perform in the previous IPL match against LSG?
On April 1, 2025, the Punjab Kings delivered a dominant all-round performance to thrash the Lucknow Super Giants by eight wickets at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Opting to field first, PBKS dominated the powerplay and never let the hosts recover fully, before chasing down 172 with 22 balls to spare.
Arshdeep Singh showcased his brilliance with the new ball by dismissing Mitchell Marsh for a golden duck in the opening over and came back to bag two more wickets in the death to end with 3 for 43.
Lockie Ferguson, Glenn Maxwell, Marco Jansen, and Yuzvendra Chahal supported him very well by chipping in with a wicket each to restrict Lucknow Super Giants to 171/7.
Chasing the target, Prabhsimran Singh smashed a brutal 69 off just 34 balls with nine fours and three sixes. Even after his dismissal at 110, Shreyas Iyer (52* off 30) and Nehal Wadhera (43* off 25) ensured there were no hiccups and they completed the run-chase in 16.2 overs.
