Mumbai Indians have been known to produce bright talents through their robust recruitment process over the years. The franchise produced yet another talent in just their first game of IPL 2025 as they unleashed the young left-arm wrist-spinner, Vignesh Puthur.
The youngster had a fantastic evening as he brought Mumbai back into the game single-handedly through his heroics. Although CSK eventually prevailed, it was Vignesh Puthur's brilliant bowling spell that caught the eye of the others.
After the match, Puthur was seen having a chat with the legendary MS Dhoni during the customary handshakes. The picture went viral on social media and speculations began to emerge about their conversation.

MS Dhoni's words to Vignesh Puthur after CSK vs MI game
MS Dhoni walked up to Vignesh Puthur and also patted his back in appreciation. The youngster was stunned by the moment as it could be seen through his eyes. It was a moment to cherish for him and both of them had a small conversation.
In the next morning, Vignesh's good friend Sreerag called him and his first question was exactly the one that was in everyone's mind. As expected, he was asked about the conversation with MS Dhoni.
"Eddaaa, pulli entha da paranchu? (What did MS Dhoni say) is what I asked first because even my parents were keen to know," Sreerag was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
Sreerag then revealed Vignesh's response and claimed that the former CSK captain appreciated him for his performance. "Dhoni asked him how old is he and told Vignesh to keep doing the same things that have brought him to the IPL," said Sreerag.
Sreerag has played a big role in Vignesh's life. He used to take the youngster on his bike for training. He has been Vignesh's close friend for some time now and was clearly thrilled by his performance.
"They were clearly taken aback" - Vignesh's parents reaction
Sreerag further made a big revelation about Vignesh Puthur's parents' response to their son's brilliant IPL debut. However, he is also aware of the disadvantages of quick fame to a cricketer and wants Vignesh to concentrate on his work.
"They were clearly taken aback. At this moment, you need to stay true to your roots and that's what I told them. We have seen what quick fame and money could do to cricketers and We saw it with Vinod Kambli then and now we are seeing it with Prithvi Shaw. This one game doesn't make him good or bad," he added.
The IPL has given several players some huge fame over the years. While some of them use it to good effect and keep improving, some players are unable to carry on their good work for a long time.
Vignesh Puthur rocks CSK
Vignesh Puthur came in to bowl during the eighth over of the innings when CSK were cruising towards the win. The youngster struck in his first over to remove the opposition captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.
He picked up a wicket each in his next two overs as well to give MI some chance of making a comeback. The match went on to the last over courtesy of him as CSK batters found it tough to read his variations.
Puthur finished with 3-32 in four overs. All three of them were big wickets as he dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, and Deepak Hooda. The youngster has raised expectations and will be expected to produce more such performances in the season.
