The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match between Australia and South Africa, scheduled for February 25, is yet to begin. Weather conditions could impact the game, raising questions about the outcomes if it is washed out. A no-result could significantly affect the group standings and qualification scenarios.

The seventh match of the event was set to start at 2:30 PM IST. However, rain in Rawalpindi has delayed the match, preventing the toss from taking place. With rain showers forecasted during match hours at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, there is a chance that the game could be abandoned without a result.

Australia and South Africa to Share Points if Rain Abandons Match

Australia and South Africa will receive one point each if rain forces the match to be abandoned. They currently have two points from their opening matches. With this result, the two teams will move to three points each and retain their positions as the top two teams in the Group B points table.

A no-result does not impact the net run rate (NRR) of the teams. This scenario could influence qualification chances, as other teams in Group B might have an opportunity to close the gap. Weather conditions in Rawalpindi remain a concern, and fans await further updates on the match's fate.

England and Afghanistan's Semi-Final Hopes to Diminish if Australia-South Africa Match Is Washed Out

If the Australia vs. South Africa match ends without a result, England and Afghanistan’s semi-final chances will take a major hit. The clash between England and Afghanistan will become a knockout match, with the losing team being eliminated. Even the winner must secure victory in their final game.

The extra point from a washout would give Australia and South Africa a slight edge in the race for the semi-finals. Australia and South Africa can secure a semi-final spot by winning their final group-stage match.

If both Australia and South Africa suffer defeats in their final group-stage matches, the winner of the England vs. Afghanistan clash will secure a semi-final berth. The second qualification spot will then be determined based on the net run rate.

Hope That the Weather Gets Cleared Pretty Soon - Aiden Markram

Aiden Markram said that South Africa are eager to compete and will give their best effort to secure a semi-final spot. He also expressed hope for improved weather conditions to ensure a competitive match against a formidable Australian side.

"Yeah, it’s a big game. Obviously, facing Australia is not an easy game. We are looking forward to this game and will give our best to win and qualify for the semis," Markram said, as quoted by CREX.

"We have played a lot of cricket together as a group. It helps to get to know each other a lot. We have played some good cricket all together in the field and off the field we try to spend some quality time. We all just hope that the weather gets cleared pretty soon and we have a good game against a quality Australian side."
