The DY Patil Cricket Stadium has been covered with black clouds, and rain has played a major role since it has already delayed the toss due to a wet outfield. For today, if the game is washed out, the game will proceed further to the reserve day as per norms.
India qualified for the 2025 ICC Women's World Cup final after they defeated the mighty 7-time world champions in the format, Australia. Indian women registered a record chase of 339 runs, with Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur leading from the front.
South Africa, on the other hand, defeated the English women, another heavyweight team in the World Cup, to enter their first-ever ICC Women's World Cup final. With so many great cricketers from both sides, exciting cricketing action is all set to be witnessed.
Rain plays the spoilsport at the DY Patil Stadium
The Navi Mumbai weather has always been a spoilsport at crucial junctures of the game, and this time as well, the weather factor has ruined the initial joy for the fans who were out there to witness the India Women go out to fetch the World Cup title.
The DY Patil Stadium is continuously facing heavy downpour. Even the weather forecasts have revealed that there will be 63% precipitation on the day of the Women's World Cup final. There are also some scanty chances of thunderstorms, and a stop-start game at the DY Patil Stadium would be expected.
The latest update from Cricbuzz revealed that the rain has arrived again at the DY Patil Stadium, and both the Indian and South African players are eagerly waiting at the sidelines for the toss proceedings to commence.
What happens if the India vs South Africa match gets washed out?
The weather can lead to a complete washout for the World Cup final; however, the organizers, anticipating anything such on such a crucial occasion, have already opted for a reserve day.
November 03, which is a Monday, would be serving as the second day for the Women's World Cup final if the initial matchday on Sunday is washed out. As per the rules of the ICC, at least 20 overs need to be played by each side to produce a decisive result in a World Cup final.
If the reserve day is ruined at the DY Patil Stadium due to rain, then the World Cup would, for the first time, mark two teams sharing their title.
Women's World Cup sees 297% surge in prize money
The BCCI went on to announce a whopping INR 125 crores for its players and the support staff of the India Women's squad for the World Cup if they defeat South Africa and win their maiden World Cup title.
While the BCCI has considered paying the men and women cricketers with equal pay, the ICC has raised their sum to a whopping $13.88 million, which is 297% higher than the previous edition of the women's tournament. This is also higher than the $10 million given out by ICC for the Men's Cricket World Cup in 2023.
