The Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are locking horns with each other in the 22nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Tuesday, April 8.
The match between the Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings and the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Chennai Super Kings is being hosted by the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur.

Chennai Super Kings started their campaign in the Indian Premier League on a high with a victory over the Mumbai Indians, but since then, they have faced three consecutive defeats.
Under Ruturaj Gaikwad's leadership, they have played a poor brand of cricket and faced one-sided defeats against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajasthan Royals, and Delhi Capitals.
Talking about the Punjab Kings, they haven't had an easy run at home, enduring their fifth successive loss at the new Chandigarh Stadium. However, this year, the Punjab Kings have looked like a completely different unit.
Although they lost their previous match at home, it was mainly because they misread the conditions. Overall, under Shreyas Iyer and Ricky Ponting, the Project Punjab has been going well and they would want to continue that by winning the match against the Chennai Super Kings.
Talking about the head-to-head record between the two teams, CSK have a 16-14 record against PBKS. However, in recent years, PBKS have absolutely dominated, winning 4 out of 5 matches since 2022.
IPL 2025: Punjab Kings win the toss and opt to bat
Speaking at the toss, PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer said that they want to make the best use of their strong batting line-up. He said:
"We are going to have a bat first, it's simply because we had a discussion how our batting lineup is and we need to make the best use of it. In the last game, the dew wasn't that much but that's not in our control but we need to back out strengths. We are going in with the same team.
"We have got really good spin bowlers in our team but it's important how we use them on a given occasion. The last game the ball wasn't turning very much, got to give credit to the Rajasthan batsmen as well, they batted really well. We hope we can execute whatever we have planned today."
Meanwhile, the CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad revealed that they were also looking to bat first. He elaborated:
"We were looking to bat first as well, pretty dry wicket, new conditions for us and we need to adapt as soon as possible. We have been bowling pretty well but we have conceded more than 15 runs an over twice in an innings, hopefully we can improve on that. We also need to improve our fielding. Same team for us.
"Me batting at 3 gives a bit more balance to our squad, it was decided during the auction time and hoping our openers will come good today. We have always been behind the game in the powerplay, it's just about going there and enjoying ourselves."
