Must-win clash for RCB
LSG don't have much to play for in the last group stage match of the season at their home. There are a couple of things that the team can do with the first one being figuring out their perfect combination for the next season and the second thing that they can do is be the party spoilers and deny the Royal Challengers Bengaluru a chance to make it into the top two.
The victory of Punjab Kings over the Mumbai Indians not only guaranteed the Shreyas Iyer-led side a top-two finish, but it also made things simpler for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru to make it to Qualifier 1.
Virat Kohli-starrer RCB just need to win their last league game against Lucknow Super Giants to reach 19 points that will seal their place in Qualifier 1 against the Punjab Kings.
Historically, the teams finishing in the top two have won the championship most of the time, and it will be crucial for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru to secure a top-two finish to get two bites at the cherry.
However, in case the Royal Challengers Bengaluru lose, they will finish third, and they will lock horns with the Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator. Last year, when RCB played the Eliminator after producing a remarkable turnaround, they bowed out of the tournament after a loss to Rajasthan Royals.
Beating LSG wouldn't be a cakewalk for the Bengaluru-based franchise because they have got a dangerous batting unit that can post gigantic totals whenever they click.
Also, the way eliminated teams have come out all guns blazing in the last few matches of the competition will definitely scare RCB a little. Meanwhile, RCB have some injury and player availability issues in the camp, but they will be boosted by the return of premier pacer Josh Hazlewood.
Talking about the IPL head-to-head record, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have a 3-2 edge over the Lucknow Super Giants, and if RCB extend their lead to 4-2, they will become the first time in the history of the IPL to win all their seven away games in a season.
