Revealed: Who Will Play Against India In World Cup Semi Final 2023?

Team India’s semifinal opponents and the venue has been revealed. The Rohit Sharma-led side is currently at the top of the points table with eight wins from eight in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

The two-time world champions began their campaign with a hard-fought 6-wicket win over Australia. India recovered from 2 for 3 to chase down 200 runs against Australia. It was followed by an eight-wicket win over Afghanistan before the hosts thrashed Pakistan and Bangladesh by a similar margin of seven wickets. Rohit Sharma & Co. then defeated New Zealand by 4 wickets.

In their following outing, they thrashed reigning champions England by 100 runs while defending a modest total of 229 runs. The semifinal spot was confirmed with a record 302-run win over Sri Lanka in the seventh game. After piling up a mammoth total of 357 runs, India bowled out Sri Lanka for just 55. In the eighth game, India defeated South Africa by 243 runs to confirm the top spot.

India’s semifinal venue and opponents:

India will end the league stage at the top of the points table irrespective of the result in their last game against the Netherlands. Two other teams – South Africa and Australia – have also confirmed their spots in the semifinal. For the final spot, three teams – New Zealand, Pakistan, and Afghanistan are in contention. All three teams can finish with a maximum of ten points.

If they win their last league games, the net run-rate will determine their fate. India will be facing either New Zealand, Pakistan, or Afghanistan in the semifinal. As per the format, the first-placed team will take on the fourth-placed team in the first semifinal. And the venue of the game will depend on India’s opponent.

While announcing the schedule, the ICC had announced the conditions for the semifinals, stating:

• If Pakistan qualify for the semi-finals, they will play in Kolkata
• If India qualify for the semifinals, they will play in Mumbai unless playing against Pakistan, in which case they will play in Kolkata

If Pakistan makes it to the semifinals, India will play the semifinal at Eden Gardens. And if New Zealand or Afghanistan enter the top four, their game against India will take place at the Wankhede Stadium.

India will be facing New Zealand or Pakistan or Afghanistan in Semi-Final.
