The BCCI selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, announced the Indian squad for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh on Saturday, September 28. Notably, Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad have been excluded from the 15-member team for the upcoming three-match series at home.

The BCCI has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming T20I series. The selectors retained eight players from the previous series against Sri Lanka. Suryakumar Yadav will continue as captain, while several players have been rested to prepare for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand.

Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad Excluded From India Squad

Ishan Kishan has been sidelined from the national cricket team since 2023. Kishan left the Test tour of South Africa in 2023 midway, citing mental fatigue. He played for India C in the recent Duleep Trophy 2024. The southpaw finished the series with 134 runs across four innings at an average of 33.50.

The Jharkhand-born cricketer has played 32 T20I matches for the national cricket team. The left-handed batter has scored 796 runs at an average of 25.67. The selectors backed Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma over Kishan for the keeper-batter's role in the absence of Rishabh Pant, who was rested.

The selectors also rested openers Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal for the T20I series against Bangladesh. Ruturaj Gaikwad missed out on selection despite the absence of regular openers in the squad. The Chennai Super Kings skipper's exclusion from the second-string squad surprised fans and experts.

Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad have been selected for the Rest of India squad for the Irani Trophy 2024 match against Mumbai. The match is scheduled to take place from October 1 to October 5 in Lucknow. Gaikwad will captain the Rest of India team in this highly anticipated red-ball domestic clash.

Ishan Kishan has been named as the wicketkeeper-batter in the Rest of India squad alongside Dhruv Jurel. Kishan has a golden chance to revive his red-ball career after being dropped from a recent Test series. The young batter will be competing with Jurel and Rishabh Pant for a spot in the Test team.
