Sarfaraz Khan has missed out on a spot in the India squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against West Indies due to an injury.

While the right-handed batsman was dropped from the squad for the five-match series in England earlier this year, he was expected to return to the squad for the upcoming series due to Karun Nair's poor display.

India squad for West Indies Tests: Shubman Gill (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja (VC), Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, Sai Sudharasan, N Jagadeesan.

Karun Nair also dropped

The senior selection panel had decided to drop Sarfaraz Khan from the middle-order to make room for Nair.

However, Nair failed to grab the opportunity, and speculations were rife that he would be dropped for the series against the West Indies.

While Nair has also been dropped from the squad, Sarfaraz Khan has missed out as well because of the injury. The Mumbai star has been sidelined after suffering a quadriceps injury during the Buchi Babu tournament last month.

Sarfaraz to play Ranji Trophy

He is currently under rehabilitation at BCCI's Centre of Excellence. While reports state that he would be fully fit before the series begins on October 2, a lack of match practice might have been one of the reasons behind his non-selection.

On Thursday (September 25), chief selector Ajit Agarkar also confirmed that Sarfaraz Khan has not been named in the squad because of injury.

Meanwhile, the Times of India has reported that Sarfaraz will only return to action for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy from October 15.

Sarfaraz Khan's Test career so far

After scoring heavily in domestic cricket, Sarfaraz finally made his Test debut for India last year. Although the right-hander has done well in international cricket so far, he has not been able to cement his place in the Test team.

He has not represented India in a Test since the third Test against New Zealand in November last year.

He was selected for the tour of Australia but did not play a single match during the five-match series. Overall, he has played 6 Tests so far and has scored 371 runs, including a century and three fifties.
