India star Richa Ghosh, on Friday (July 5), was forced to retire hurt and was ruled out of the remainder of the first T20I against South Africa at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The wicketkeeper-batsman suffered an injury after falling awkwardly while trying to take a catch. The incident took place in the 16th over of the South Africa innings. On the third ball of the over, Pooja  Vastrakar bowled a short-of-length delivery to Tazmin Brits who went for a pull shot.

However, she ended up top-edging as the ball went straight up. Richa Ghosh called for the catch and it looked like a regulation one for her. However, she completely misjudged the catch before making a desperate dive to catch the ball. She once again failed to grab the ball as the ball hit her glove before deflecting onto her face.

Richa Ghosh also ended up falling face-first on the ground. She looked in pain straightaway as she did not get up immediately before the physio escorted her out of the ground. Uma Chetry then put on the wicketkeeping gloves and stood behind the stumps.

Later, the BCCI gave an update on the player, saying that Sajeevan Sajana has replaced her as a concussion substitute. The board also stated that Ghosh is suffering from neck pain and dizziness.

"Sajeevan Sajana has been named the concussion substitute for Richa Ghosh, who is suffering from neck pain and dizziness due to an on-field injury. She has been sent for further scans & the BCCI Medical Team is monitoring her progress," stated the BCCI.
