Former Australian player Ricky Ponting talked about the impact of X-factor player Glenn Maxwell while shedding light on his Test return. He said that players like him, along with Suryakumar Yadav, are complete 360-degree players and should be allowed to play the way they are playing.

Glenn Maxwell, along with Suryakumar Yadav, no doubt, are two of the most talented players going around in the world of cricket. They are touted as T20 beasts because of what they have done in the format, helping the team win the games from impossible positions.

Glenn Maxwell and Suryakumar Yadav are arguably the best 360-degree players going around in World cricket. The duo has been sensational with the bat and the kind of shots that they generate made many go bonkers. Their ability to score runs all across the park sets them apart from others.

While Suryakumar Yadav has made a massive impact in the T20s, Glenn Maxwell has been equally successful in the ODIs. Not only this, he also has his moments in the Tests as his ability to change the game makes him a dangerous player in the longest format of the game.

Ricky Ponting, while talking about the impact of X-factor players like Glenn Maxwell, highlighted that coaches need to be careful about how they talk to them. While speaking to Cricbuzz about the same, he elaborated:

"Guys like that who have that X factor talent about them, I don't like to talk to them too much about their cricket. You just have to be careful with the way that you phrase things in the way that you speak to them. Because for players that have got that sort of talent, you don't want to get in their way.

"You don't want to have something that you said in the back of their mind that can stop that X factor play coming out. So for me, it's much easier to coach the guys that have less talent and less skill because I think I can help them and give them things that they can think about that can make them better."

Glenn Maxwell and Suryakumar are probably the most complete 360-degree players in the modern game - Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting further put Travis Head in the same category and pointed out how he didn't want to go in his head and made a bold claim, saying that Glenn Maxwell and Suryakumar Yadav are the best modern-day 360-degree players. He added:

"And Travis is the same right now. I mentioned in one of our postgame chats the other night that there are a lot of things that I could talk to Travis about with his batting, but I'm not going to because it's all good. It's going so well that I don't need to get in the back of his head. I don't want to be this little voice sitting on his shoulder. I want him to play with freedom and keep doing what he's doing and Maxwell was a bit the same.

"So it's hard to dissect. Now that AB de Villiers and those guys aren't around, Glenn and Suryakumar are probably the most complete 360-degree players in the modern game. And with what he can bring with the other dimensions to his cricket - his fielding and with the ball - he's a very, very good player," he concluded.
