Star batsman Rinku Singh has opened up on his fear of being snubbed from the Asia Cup 2025 squad due to his sudden dip in form in both international and domestic cricket.

After India's Asia Cup squad was announced, there was widespread criticism of the selectors for including Rinku Singh in the side while leaving out Shreyas Iyer.

Rinku, who plays for Uttar Pradesh domestically and Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, saw a major dip in form in recent times, while Shreyas has outperformed many greats of the game with his recent domination.

Rinku Singh opens up on 'unexpected' selection for Asia Cup 2025

Recently, in an interview with Rohit Juglan from RevSportz on the sidelines of the UPT20 League, the KKR batter opened up on his fear of losing his spot for the Asia Cup due to his disappointing performances in the IPL as well as for India.

However, luckily, the selectors have backed him, and the selection seemed to have added largely to his morale, as Rinku went on to score his maiden T20 hundred in the last match of the UPT20 League, thus marching back to form.

"I got motivated after I saw my name on the Asia Cup list. I did not do well last year, and I felt that it was possible that I would get left out," said Rinku.

"But the selectors showed trust in me and selected me, and that gave me a confidence boost. The innings that I played in the UP T20 League have boosted my confidence, and I would take it there," Rinku Singh added.

After clearing out the uncertainty on any further India team chances, Rinku Singh scored his maiden T20 hundred in the UPT20 League match between Meerut Mavericks and Gorakhpur Lions. The specialist batter has often been tagged as a finisher due to his proven efficiency in being effective during the final 5 overs.

Rinku smashed a terrific 108* off just 48 balls, with 7 fours and 8 sixes in the innings, of which 5 sixes came in the last 6 balls he faced. He tore pacers Abdul Rehman and Vasu Vats apart with some fiery hitting, as the Mavericks chased a moderate 168.

"Selectors want you to have multiple roles," Rinku Singh drops a massive selection mantra

The left-handed batter has evolved another attribute in recent times, as he has earned a reputation for bowling one or two overs in the match. This has helped in his selection since Gautam Gambhir always prefers players who can impact the game in multiple ways.

"Bowling is very important today. The selectors want you to have multiple roles in the team. If you cannot affect the game by bat, do it with the ball," Rinku said.

Rinku also expressed his ability to bat in any position the team needs him to play. He has said that he is versatile enough to play in the middle order, while he might also come in during the death overs as a slogger.

"I batted at No. 5 in 2023. I do not feel good when I bat at No. 7 and No. 8. But it is the team's need, so you have to perform in that role. I have played 33 T20I matches for the Indian team, and I have scored 3 fifties. I can bat everywhere, not just in the finisher's role," Rinku said in the interview.
