Indian Cricket Team’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant etched his name into the records of T20 cricket history during the opening game of the ongoing three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele on Saturday, July 27.

Pant achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the second-fastest Indian to complete 5,000 runs in T20 cricket in terms of the balls faced, trailing only behind the explosive batter and India’s new T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav during the first T20I against Sri Lanka.

Suryakumar Yadav holds the record for the fastest Indian to 5,000 T20 runs, having achieved the milestone in 3,444 balls. Yadav's scintillating form and innovative stroke play have made him a standout performer and a key asset for the Indian team in the shortest format of the game.

Following Pant, former Indian batter Suresh Raina is the third fastest Indian to have completed his 5,000 runs in 3,543 balls. Raina's impact on the shorter format of the game has been immense, with his dynamic batting and explosive performances making him one of the finest T20 batters in the world.

Notably, Pant played a stunning knock of 49 runs off 33 balls, and Suryakumar made 58 runs off just 26 balls to help Team India post 213/7 on the board in the first T20I against Sri Lanka on Saturday.

Later, Riyan Parag (3/5), Arshdeep Singh (2/24), and Axar Patel (2/38) bowled out Sri Lanka to 170 runs to win the match for the Men in Blue by 43 runs in Pallekele. As Pant continues to blaze new trails and set records, his journey has been an inspiration.

The wicketkeeper batter recently made his comeback to the international arena after his horrific car accident. Since making a comeback on the field, Pant has been regularly delivering standout performances with the bat and behind and the stumps.

Axar Patel reveals why Rishabh Pant was demoted in the batting order in the first T20I against Sri Lanka

Pant was also part of India’s 2024 T20 World Cup 2024-winning team. Notably, Pant was dropped down to the fourth spot in the first T20I against Sri Lanka, and Axar Patel revealed that it was due to the team's combination of left and right-handed batters in the line-up.

Axar Patel said at the post-match press conference: "If you have that chance (to ensure) that there are no two lefties or two righties (in the middle) at the same time. If you have that chance, if you have those players in batting, then why not use them? You also have to keep changing the batting order as per the bowling options that the opposition has got.”
