India’s new vice-captain and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant made a stunning comeback to his form after a poor IPL 2025 season as he smacked a remarkable century on Day 2 of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy opener against England at Headingley.

Rishabh Pant had faced a lot of criticism after failing to deliver for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL 2025. The LSG brought Pant for a whopping INR 27 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction, making him the costliest player ever in the tournament’s history, and handed over the captaincy.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned, as the left-hander could muster only 269 runs at a meager average of 24 and strike rate of 133 as the Lucknow Super Giants finished seventh in the IPL 2025 points table with only 6 wins from the 8 games.

However, after the IPL 2025, the Indian wicketkeeper got some time to think about where he was going wrong, and now in England, he announced his return to form in style. On Day 2 of the ongoing first Test, Pant smoked a one-handed six off Shoaib Bashir to bring up his seventh Test century.

Test cricket is truly Pant's playground, and that’s where he thrives regardless of pitch or opposition, and he proved that once again. India’s vice-captain notched up his century in 146 balls. It was Pant’s second consecutive Test hundred in England, making the most of the excellent batting conditions.

Rishabh Pant breaks MS Dhoni’s Test record with sensational century

With this century, Rishabh Pant has now etched his name in history by surpassing the legendary MS Dhoni to become India’s most prolific Test centurion among designated wicketkeepers. He now has the most Test hundreds as an Indian wicketkeeper, surpassing Dhoni’s tally of six centuries.

After his stunning hundred, fans have been hailing Pant, with some saying if he continues playing like this, nobody will miss Virat Kohli. While some are calling the Indian star an incredible Test player, many fans have been lauding Pant’s domination in the traditional format of the game.

Rishabh Pant slams 3rd Test century with a six

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant has now brought up a Test century with a six for the third time in his career, and interestingly, all three tons have come against English spinners. He reached the milestone earlier against Adil Rashid and Joe Root, and now against Shoaib Bashir at Headingley.

Among Indian players, only Sachin Tendulkar has done the same for more, hitting six hundreds with a six. Rohit Sharma has also achieved this feat three times in the format.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant join legends with historic triple ton feat outside Asia

On the other hand, India’s rich legacy of overseas batting brilliance added a fresh chapter at Headingley on Saturday. In a remarkable display, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant all smashed centuries in the same innings against England, which marked only the fourth instance when three Indian batters have done so outside Asia in Test cricket.

This rare feat was first achieved in 1986, when Sunil Gavaskar, Kris Srikkanth, and Mohinder Amarnath hammered hundreds against Australia in Sydney. And then the iconic trio of Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, and Sourav Ganguly did the same at Headingley in 2002.

In 2006, Virender Sehwag, Dravid, and Mohammad Kaif repeated the feat in the West Indies at Gros Islet. Now, in 2025, India’s young guns Jaiswal, Gill, and Pant have joined the elite club.
